You What Umpire TrophyThe ‘You What!’ Trophy had been presented to the County by former International Umpire and Middlesex Vice President Maureen Hyam and her late husband, Dick, to be awarded to umpires who have supported Middlesex in any way.
2019: This year’s nominee has been a B award umpire since 2014 and is currently working towards A award qualification. An active club player and umpire who has become an integral part of the County League central allocation pool of umpires and who supports Middlesex by officiating at National Schools rounds, Satellite and County Academy trials and festivals. She is an accredited mentor who is supporting working towards C umpires across our evening leagues at Harlington and Queensmead as well as working with towards B award umpires at our County League. This season she has also given her time to the North London League mentoring scheme and has also recently gained accreditation as an England Netball Umpire Assessor. This year’s winner is Nicola Allan. 2018: Shelly Williams for her commitment to Officiating at Grassroots level in particular has, for many, many years, been quite exceptional. School Tournaments, League Matches, charity events, umpiring, scoring, organising – whatever is needed – she will oblige if it is humanly possible! It is, however, her selfless effort in organising, developing and supporting umpires as well as actively umpiring, frequently at the very last minutes in order that games can be played, in short for so long holding the Harlington League together. 2017: The County Management Committee have not awarded this trophy for 2017. 2016: Amber Derrien. For her enormous contribution to Officiating both in Middlesex and beyond. Her Tutoring, Mentoring and Assessing skills have contributed to the healthy increase in the number of qualified umpires, at all levels, both in the County and in L&SE Region. The quality of Performance from Middlesex umpires is notable high, a fact commented upon by Maureen Hyam herself as she watched both sophie and Amber perform at the the recet Goalden Globes event. Maureen was thrilled to learn that they were from her County! Not limiting herself to local Officiating development, this lady is currently supporting the England Netball Officiating Department in re-writing material for the New Rule Presentations! Her personal umpiring development, umpiring at Region, Premier League and NTL, is fitted in between all this and her busy family life – not to mention the house extension! She was talent spotted through the England Netball Performance Officiating Programme, to help develop her skills to work at the upper reaches of the game both domestically (reserve at Super League) and Internationally - this year representing Team GB in Europe at Netball Europe Championships 2016 in Gibraltar. 2015: Sophie Scott. Sophie has been identified within London and South East as one of the region's talented B award umpires and this season was given opportunities to officiate at the U14 National Clubs Finals in Newcastle and at a number of Surrey Storm National Performance League (NPL) matches as well as the NPL closing weekend tournament also in Newcastle. She received recognition at this event in April when she was appointed to both the Cup semi-final and final matches. She will be undertaking her A award practical assessment in the new season. Not only is Sophie progressing her own umpring but she share her knowlege and passion with her team mates at Hyde Park and supports and encourages their developing umpires. Sophie is a dedicated member of Middlesex's Team White. 2014: Carolyn Davies. For her support of our County Umpiring team and her willingness to travel miles to tutor, mentor, assess or officiate across Middlesex the award goes to an umpire who was not actually ‘made in Middlesex’ but seems happy to have been adopted by us. 2013: Rachel Zillwood. For her infectious enthusiasm, good humour and application to the training and mentoring of umpires in Middlesex and her personal development and achievements Regionally and Nationally, following in the footsteps of Maureen Hyam. 2012: Julia Mark. Julia has worked hard to develop her own umpiring achieving her A Award during the year. She has supported the County, the County Umpiring Secretary and a wide variety of Clubs through her willingness to umpire anywhere and at any level. Her skill, professionalism, reliability and pleasant personality has made her a respected and busy umpire! 2011: Amber Derrien (nee Buchan). Amber has continued to work hard to maintain her own high standard of umpiring whilst supporting the County and the County Umpiring Secretary by presenting courses, testing and mentoring. She has also worked closely with the Region and Storm’s National Talent Squad training. 2010: Liz Anderton. Liz worked hard to maintain her high standard of umpiring, has taken steps to become a tester and mentor but above all has enthusiastically and efficiently taken over the role of Umpiring Secretary. The task was not an easy one in the absence, particularly, of testing records. However, thanks to Liz , umpiring in Middlesex is now back on track . 2009: Amber Buchan. Amber has worked hard to successfully gain their A Award, has umpired at National Events and is a mentor, tester, tutor and fine role model for other umpires. For personal achievement and commitment to all aspects of umpiring in Middlesex. 2008: no award 2007: Amber Buchan. Amber has worked hard to achieve her B award, is continuing to work for the A award, has umpired at National Events and is C award mentor and tester.
